Living by the beach, I often walk along the shore with my little family and my dog. Or sometimes when we just need OUT of the house I take my children to the beach to play in the sand with their shovels, buckets and build sandcastles. On these trips, my son and I look through the sand and rocks for sand glass, or unique looking drift wood pieces. I have always loved the look of driftwood, but a pile of driftwood sitting on a shelf isn't so appealing to the eye. Driftwood art is nothing new, lets be honest, this element has been around for a very long time. I have seen beautiful real succulent wreaths done so elegantly, though with being true to my challenged green thumb I decided to use faux succulents as to avoid the tragic death of yet more succulents. My husband has the gardening hack down, I myself do not, sorry mom you tried!
So, how do you do it?
It's quite simple really, first you must gather your materials. You will need:
- Hot Glue Gun Glue sticks for the glue gun Driftwood (20 pieces) an array of different sizes. Make sure you have 4 larger ones to create the frame to build on
- Faux succulents ( I got the ones used on this project from Amazon)
- Moss ( I got the assorted moss from Walmart in their craft section)
Second, sort through the driftwood sticks and find the four longest to create your frame, with this make a box/diamond shape with the sticks. Try to join the end of the sticks together relatively close to the other sticks end. Use your glue gun and join the frame together. After the frame has set, fill in the rest of the wreath with the array of different stick sizes gluing them into place as you go, make your placements relatively even around your frame. After you are happy with the driftwood, start to glue and place your faux succulents in a asymmetrical pattern, you can also glue on the moss at this point as well, attaching your materials as you wish onto your driftwood wreath. And Voila! There you have it, bringing a little beach home with you in a tasteful manner!
